Black Hamburger Buns

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons active dry yeast
  • 1 cup warm water 110-120 degrees
  • 1/3 cup vegetable oil
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 large egg beaten
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3 to 3-1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon activated charcoal
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 2 tablespoons sesame seeds

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 425
  2. Add yeast, warm water, oil and sugar to the bowl of a stand mixer - let stand for 5 minutes until foamy
  3. Whisk in the egg and add the flour and charcoal
  4. Using a dough hook, and knead 3-5 minutes until dough is smooth and elastic. Alternatively you can knead by hand on a lightly floured surface
  5. Divide into 8 equal pieces, shape each into a ball and put on a greased or parchment lined baking sheet - cover with a kitchen towel and let rest for 10 minutes
  6. Beat the egg and water, brush on the buns then sprinkle with sesame seeds
  7. Bake 10-12 minutes
