Curry Wurst

Sitting comfortably in the top 10 street foods in Germany, this insanely delicious combo of grilled brats with a tomato based curry sauce is not just good drinking food - it's good anytime food.

Ingredients

  • 6 links bratwurst, or any of your favorite German sausage
  • 1 tablespoon neutral oil
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 1 tablespoon neutral oil
  • 2 tablespoons curry powder, plus a little extra for sprinkling
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 1 teaspoon tumeric, optional
  • 15 ounces canned crushed tomatoes
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire
  • ½ teaspoon kosher salt
  • ¼ teaspoon coarse ground black pepper
  • 2 teaspoon sugar
  • Fries for serving

Directions

  1. Grill or pan fry brats to 160
  2. While they cook, heat oil in a small pot and cook onion until juts softened, 3-4
  3. Add the curry, paprika, cumin and tumeric - mix in well about a minute
  4. Add the tomatoes, worster, salt, pepper and sugar - stir to combine, and let simmer about 10 minutes
  5. When this sauce and brats are ready - you're ready
  6. Slice the brats on a diagonal, and plate them topped with the sauce, an extra sprinkle of curry powder and some fries on the side
