Your New Favorite Gravy

Your New Favorite Gravy

Everything starts - half beef, and half chicken - it's perfect.

Makes about 2 cups

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 small onion, finely diced
  • 2 tablespoons all purpose flour
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 cup chicken broth
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon soy sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • Salt to taste

Directions

  1. Melt the butter in a saucepan over medium heat, add onion with a small pinch of salt and cook, stirring occasionally, until soft and lightly golden,  6 to 8 minutes
  2. Sprinkle in the flour and stir to coat everything. Cook, stirring constantly, for about 2 minutes so the raw flour taste is gone and it starts to smell a little nutty.
  3. Slowly pour in the beef broth while whisking, then the chicken broth, making sure there are no lumps. Bring to a gentle simmer.
  4. Add the Worcestershire, soy sauce, garlic powder, and black pepper. Let it simmer, stirring occasionally, until thickened and smooth, about 5 to 8 minutes.
  5. Taste and add salt as needed.
